This wine brand came from the desire to do more, give more, and accomplish something big! We wanted to make a change in our lives and those we had a special affinity. Like many, we have goals of designing and building our own house, traveling, and being able to give substantial financial support to organizations of similar philosophy and values.
Tim had worked for a large wine company for over nine years, during which he had an unexpected one-year deployment to Kuwait, Kate gave birth to our three kids and managed to continually grow my photography business. He discovered he had a real passion for the art, science, and nuances of wine; he had outgrown his current position and wanted, rather needed, something more. Tim had been percolating an idea, or very much a goal, to make his own wine. For two years he successfully made wine in a garage with a couple of friends.
The real lightbulb moment for him was in Fall of 2013, he, along with a wine maker friend, started to make two seventy-gallon barrels of wine in our garage from nearly one-ton of fruit. Later in the process, the hands-on experience along with the boys helping with daily punchdowns, winemaking became part of his love of wine and it was pretty much game over; he was officially and completely in love with winemaking.
One afternoon, after being particularly upset about having to go back to work the next day, I told Tim if he was that unhappy to put in his resignation. He said, “Okay” and walked away. Two minutes later he came back into the room with a completed resignation letter and said, “I already feel better.” The next day Rally Point Wines was officially born.
We live off of and fund this enterprise with our savings. We joke “go big or go home,” and “failure is not an option.” We believe with all our hearts that we can make this work and accomplish our mission, but we need your help as we can’t do it alone. One evening we were in the kitchen and brainstorming what we should put on our website. We discussed how we might end up using all our savings before we get it off the ground. Tim said, “Yeah, we are going for broke, literally!” then he said, “We should say, ‘Buy our wine or we are going broke!'” We chuckled together, and then he said, “Buy our wine or we will go broke and I’ll have to move in with my mother-in-law!” We laughed out loud for several minutes, and it still makes me smile when I think about it. (We love you mom!)
We are two people that want and believe we can make a difference in people’s lives through wine, wine education, and the ability it gives us to help others. We hope you join us and make Rally Point Wines a rally point for you.
